The Valley high school boys basketball playoffs tip off tonight with the Harlingen Cardinals at Edinburg North in a Class 6A bi-district contest set to begin at 7 p.m.
The Cards enter the game as the fourth seed out of District 32-6A while the Cougars were the top team out of District 31-6A.
The Red Birds actually ended the regular-season on a bit of a low note last Tuesday by losing at home to Brownsville Rivera.
WARRIORS READY: The Santa Rosa Warriors, who made it all the way to the state semifinals last year, are looking to make another deep run in the postseason. Their journey begins today with a Class 2A bi-district contest against Bishop. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. at Falfurrias High School. The Warriors enter the game, once again, as the No. 1 seed out of their league.
BULLDOGS UNLEASHED: The Lyford Bulldogs are also hoping to make some noise in the postseason starting tonight. The Bulldogs begin their postseason push against Santa Gertrudis at 6 p.m. at Bishop High School.
PLAY BALL: The 2018 high school baseball season officially begins this week and some teams, like the Harlingen South Hawks, actually hit the field Monday. The Hawks hosted Edinburg North on Monday and will now ready themselves for the McAllen Tournament, which gets underway this weekend. The Hawks are scheduled to open against Roma and Calallen on Thursday, then face McAllen Rowe and Brownsville Rivera on Friday. Meanwhile, the Harlingen Cardinals also took to the diamond on Monday at McAllen Rowe and they too are at the McAllen Tournament later this week. Finally, the San Benito Greyhounds kick off the new season at home tonight against Brownsville Porter. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. As with South and Harlingen High, the Hounds are also set to compete in the McAllen Tournament.
