Roundtable discussion expected with law enforcement, CBP

McALLEN — Vice President Mike Pence’s office confirmed yesterday that he will tour the U.S.-Mexico border in the Rio Grande Valley today.

Pence will be joined by Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz for “an operational tour of the U.S.-Mexico border,” according to a White House official.

Pence and Nielsen will then meet with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to discuss “the need to secure America’s borders and updates on the infrastructure and technology used to build the wall,” the official said.

Border Patrol Rio Grande Valley Sector Chief Manuel Padilla is expected to be involved in the visit.

Prior to arriving here this afternoon, Pence will be in San Antonio delivering keynote remarks at a fundraiser for Trump Victory.

Trump Victory is an organization that benefits President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign and the Republican National Committee.

Following his Rio Grande Valley visit, Pence will spend tomorrow in Dallas at a tax reform event, followed by a keynote address at the Dallas County GOP’s Reagan Day Dinner.
