Community cleaning up, preparing for Spring Break

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — It’s spring cleaning time on the Island once again.

And everyone is invited to spruce up their yards and haul out bulky items by participating in the city’s “I Love SPI” campaign.

Island leaders are asking the community to love the Island this Valentine’s Day and participate in the cleanup.

The campaign, which will run until Feb. 14, allows residents and businesses to place brush and bulky items at the front of their property for collection.

“Take advantage and clear your property of unnecessary debris and bulky items,” said Victor Baldovinos, SPI environmental health director.

The “I Love SPI” campaign was introduced in 2012.

“It is a great annual event and we sincerely appreciate the great spirit and volunteerism of the participants,” Mayor Dennis Stahl said. “Our number one asset is the clean, pristine beaches of South Padre Island and we welcome these wonderful efforts,” Stahl said.
