Award-winning Hank Williams Tribute artist coming to town

HARLINGEN — Are you ready for a nostalgic night listening to legendary Hank Williams music and learn about his influence on country music?

If your answer is yes, on Saturday, Jan. 27, you will have that opportunity to experience Obie Award-winning singer/actor Jason Petty.

Petty will bring Williams’ music back to life at the Harlingen Municipal Auditorium Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m., in his tribute show, Hank and My Honky Tonk Heroes.

This musical revue is presented by the nonprofit Harlingen Concert Association (HCA).

Petty, a Tennessee native, began portraying Williams in 1996 at the world-famous Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

Since that time, he has dazzled audiences in theatres across the United States, Canada and Europe.

“He’s got the look, the charm, the wit … and most of all … he’s got the voice and the talent,” said Don Helms, an original member of Hank Williams’ band. “Every music fan will love this show.”

Hank and My Honky Tonk Heroes also has earned rave reviews from major critics, including the New York Times, Variety, and Rolling Stone.

As stated in the New York Post, “At times it seems as if Petty is not just offering an impersonation of Williams, but channeling his ghost.”

Petty gives audiences a personal look at Williams’ upbringing, road to fame, and legacy.

His show includes songs by several icons of country music including Jimmie Rodgers, Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb, and the Carter Family.

“Jason and his band are authentic, honest and respectful to the originals without being imitative,” wrote the artistic director of the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia. “Barter’s audience, who know the heart and soul of country, bluegrass and folk music, found Jason Petty to be one of their own and adopted his show like it came from the mountains of Appalachia.”

The Harlingen Concert Association has been presenting internationally-acclaimed artists to the community since the 1930s.

This all-volunteer, nonprofit organization is committed to enriching the cultural life of the Harlingen area through live performances.

Thanks to loyal season ticket-holders and sponsors, these concerts can be offered at affordable, family-friendly prices.

There are three additional HCA performances at the Harlingen Municipal Auditorium in 2018. These are: The Quebe Sisters, fiddle champions (Feb. 10), Three Redneck Tenors (Feb. 21), and The Side Street Strutters Jazz Band (March 9).

All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.HarlingenConcert.com.
