Valley schools announce closures

San Benito CISD says it will close all campuses tomorrow because of the cold weather and the potential for hazardous driving conditions.

The district says all San Benito campuses, departments, and offices will be closed on Wednesday. The district plans to resume all normal operations Thursday, Jan. 18.

HARLINGEN

All Harlingen CISD schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday. Classes are scheduled to resume on Thursday. The missed day will be made up on Feb. 19.

BROWNSVILLE

Brownsville ISD has also decided to closes schools on Wednesday because of the cold weather. In addition, classes will be delayed on Thursday due to the expected continued cold. Middle school classes will start at 10 a.m., elementary school classes at 10:30 a.m. and high school classes at 11:15 a.m. All district employees are to report to their assignments at the regular time on Thursday. The district will make up the day on April 2, a teacher work day.

TEXAS SOUTHMOST COLLEGE

Texas Southmost College officials say they closely monitoring weather conditions and will decide this afternoon during a 1:45 p.m. meeting whether the campus will be closed or remain open.

LOS FRESNOS

Los Fresnos CISD says after discussion with the Cameron County Division of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service this morning the district has decided it will hold classes Wednesday and Thursday. The district says the schools will be warmer than homes for a large portion of our students.

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

The Diocese of Brownsville says all Catholic schools in the valley will be closed on Wednesday due to the weather.

JUBILEE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

The charter school says both the Brownsville and Harlingen campuses will be closed on Wednesday. Tutoring, student council and Girl Scout meetins have been cancelled for today. Classes will resume on Thursday.

LA FERIA

The La Feria school district has cancelled classes for Wednesday. Students will return to school on Thursday.

RIO HONDO

The Rio Hondo ISD superintendent says classes will be closed for students on Wednesday, but district staff will be working beginning at 10 a.m. Classes will resume for everyone on Thursday.

TSTC HARLINGEN

TSTC will close the Harlingen campus at 3 p.m. today and remain closed until Thursday morning. All of tonight’s evening classes and activities are cancelled.

POINT ISABEL

Point Isabel ISD will continue with normal school hours for Wednesday. In a Facebook post, the district said any changes will be announced as early as possible.

MID VALLEY ACADEMY

Mid Valley Academy Charter District High Schools in McAllen, Mercedes and San Benito will be closed on Wednesday. Classes will resume on Thursday at regular school hours.

SOUTH TEXAS ISD

South Texas ISD will be holding classes as usual on Wednesday, Jan. 17. Should there be any changes officials will update their social media sites and district website.

TEXAS SOUTHMOST COLLEGE

TSC will close the campus at 5 p.m. and cancelled all Tuesday night classes. The college will remain closed on Wednesay and reopen on Thursday morning.

IDEA PUBLIC SCHOOLS

All IDEA Public Schools in the Rio Grande Valley will be open on Wednesday but on a delayed start. Students will start classes at 10 a.m. and staff must arrived on campus at 9 a.m. Pre-K morning classes will start at 10 a.m.
