Pedestrian hospitalized after crash on Ed Carey

HARLINGEN — An auto-pedestrian crash yesterday afternoon sent one man to the hospital for his injuries and the other to jail for suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

The Harlingen Highway Enforcement Unit stayed on the scene of the crash last night investigating the accident on Ed Carey Drive.

According to police, at 5:25 p.m. officers arrived at the 500 block of North Ed Carey Drive in response to an emergency call about the auto-pedestrian crash.

The street was closed for more than two hours while the emergency medical service assisted and the police investigated.

According to police, officers arrived and found a male lying in the street with injuries.

Police said the male victim was transported to a local hospital due to his injuries.

Police said during the course of the investigation, officers learned that the male victim had been crossing Ed Carey Drive on foot when he was struck by a vehicle.

The vehicle that struck the male victim stayed on scene.

Police said at this time, the 26-year-old male driver has been placed under arrest for suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

No further information was available about the crash and names were not released last night.

The incident remains under investigation.
