Ted Lyra, the school district’s Director of Choirs, is proud to announce that several San Benito San Benito High School and San Benito Veterans Memorial Academy choir students were named to Texas Music Educators Association’s District and Region Choir.
The honorees include, from left, Matthew Woodard, Victor Moreno, Robert Torres, Mauricio Diaz, Giovanna Covarrubias, Tenzia Marroquin, Amanda Barrera, Norma Salinas, and Audrey Garza. Moreno and Diaz will continue as alternates to the Area-round of competition to be held at Nikki Rowe High School in McAllen.
These students competed against other high school choirs from Brownsville all the way to Donna in three competitions: District Mixed auditions in September, District Treble auditions in October, and Region/Pre-Area auditions in November. The students were required to learn at least five songs per competition, with each song escalating in difficulty as they advanced to the next round.
Most recently, the students participated in the District Treble/Region Clinic and Concert at the Donna High School Simon Sauceda Performing Arts Complex Auditorium in Donna.
