A spacious new family practice clinic in Mercedes is now offering counseling services in addition to medical care for patients of all ages, including Valley seniors and other adults, Winter Texans, and children.
The new Knapp Medical Center/UTRGV Family Practice Residency Clinic is located right off Expressway 83 at the North Mile 2 West Road exit in Mercedes (at 2810 W. Expressway 83.) The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and accepts walk-in patients as well as those with appointments.
The clinic is under the direction of Dr. Miguel Tello, family medicine physician and associate program director for the Knapp/UTRGV Family Practice Residency Program. The clinic is also staffed by six family practice resident physicians: Dr. Eddy Berges; Dr. Diego Moreno; Dr. Eliana Costantino Burgazzi; Dr. Miguel A. Sanchez Rivas; Dr. Carolina Gomez de Ziegler; and Dr. Marita del Pilar Sanchez Sierra Marino, MD; as well as a family nurse practitioner, Nicole Guzman.
In addition, the clinic provides mental health services with the addition of Jennifer Ortega, DPC, LPC, CPC, a licensed professional counselor, behavioral scientist and assistant professor with The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine. Dr. Ortega is available for appointments with those dealing with anxiety, depression and other conditions, as well as for couples seeking marriage counseling.
Dr. Tello said it’s an honor for him and his team of doctors and other health care professionals to be able to provide such a wide variety of healthcare services to patients in the Mid-Valley. Dr. Tello was born at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, grew up in Elsa, and previously served as a teacher in the Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District.
