SAN BENITO — Christmas and the holidays surrounding it are known to be the perfect time to pay it forward.
During a time of presents and treats, many people are looking for ways to give back and the Rotary Club of San Benito is no different.
The Rotary Club will be hosting a toy drive mixer Thursday, Nov. 30, at El Sabor De Mi Tierra.
The event is a time to socialize with members and donate.
Alma Ortiz, president of the Rotary Club of San Benito, said Christmas is the time of giving.
“We know that there are children in our own community that unfortunately won’t be getting a visit from Santa this year,” Ortiz said.
Ortiz said the Rotary Club will hopefully change that with the toy drive.
“We’re encouraging the community, that if they are interested in brightening the lives of these children, to please drop off a present or donate $10,” Ortiz said.
Those unable to make the event and want to donate can mail their donations to the Rotary Club of San Benito or drop the gifts off at Farmers Insurance.
Toys and donations collected will benefit the children and families in local colonias.
Donations will be delivered to the children and families before Christmas weekend.
Ortiz said the club is partnering with Constable Adrien Gonzalez.
The club will visit Bent Park, La Paloma, El Ranchito and Bonita Park to drop off gifts and donations.
Ortiz said the Rotary Club has already received a $500 donation from an attorney based out of Edinburg.
“Just with that amount I know we will be able to put a smile on several children,” Ortiz said.
This will be the first toy drive that the club hosts and Ortiz said she hopes to continue doing this every year.
