Drink coffee with a cop

LOS INDIOS — Get the morning started with a nice chat with local law enforcement over coffee on Friday.

“Coffee with a Cop brings police officers and the community members they serve together over coffee to discuss issues and learn more about each other and the people we serve,” said Jose De La Rosa, Los Indios police chief.

De La Rosa continues to get to know the community and has called a morning meeting for the public to join him to talk over coffee with other area law enforcement.

De La Rosa said Coffee with a Cop is an attempt to break barriers between local law enforcement and the citizens they serve by removing agendas and allowing opportunities to ask questions, voice concerns and get to know the officers in your neighborhood.

“Unfortunately, the majority of law enforcement interactions within a community occur during emergencies or situations not conducive to strengthening relationships,” said De La Rosa, “With each ‘Coffee with a Cop’ program, officers will be able to talk one-on-one with residents in an informal setting.”

Los Indios Police Department is hosting this event on Friday Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to 11p.m.

Los Indios police has organized this event in conjunction with the U.S. Border Patrol Harlingen station.

Agencies that will be attending include Border Patrol Harlingen Station, Los Indios Police, Santa Rosa Police, Cameron County Pct. 5 constables, emergency management, Cameron County district attorney’s office, La Feria PD, and other agencies in the area.

“Our department always looks forward to these types of relaxed events where we can interact with the public and hear about the issues that matter to them personally,” De La Rosa said. “We hope that residents will take the opportunity to stop by and enjoy some good coffee, sweet bread, and conversation.”
