The third man accused in a daring 2010 home invasion is going to trial this week.

Jury selection began Monday in 197th state District Court in Jorge Omar Cervantes’ trial. Cervantes faces a host of charges stemming from the incident. He is also accused of bail jumping. Court records show Cervantes was detained at an international bridge in 2016.

Cervantes, Epigmenio Ahumada and Jorge Ramirez, were accused of wielding handguns and wearing masks when they rang the door bell to a house on the 500 block of Acacia Lake Drive. According to police, the housekeeper opened the door and the men threatened her and waited for the homeowner to return home from work.

By the time the homeowner arrived, the men had bound the housekeeper and gardener and ransacked the house, according to police. The men were accused of taking jewelry from safes in the house and forcing the homeowner to withdraw a large amount of money from several banks and leave it on the side of a rural road.

The victim, Dr. Rafael Arredondo, said in 2013 that he lost his entire lifesavings.

Both Ahumada and Ramirez pleaded guilty to burglary of a habitation in 2013 and are serving 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
