Wellness expo to bring free screenings to Valley

HARLINGEN — A local expo is looking to promote healthy living.

Tomorrow, the Annual Lower Valley Community Health and Wellness Expo will provide a one-stop shop for all your health needs.

RGV Promotions in partnership with the RGV Food Bank and the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance will host its annual expo that will provide free health screenings and family-friendly activities.

Event coordinator Marie Martinez said the expo will have more than 50 vendors available and is expected to attract more than 1,000 attendees.

“We offer everything that can help you get started on a healthy lifestyle,” Martinez said.

Dental, vision and hearing screenings will all be offered free of charge as well as one-on-ones with local doctors and physical trainers.

The expo is an opportunity for community members to receive health care they would normally go without.

“We are bringing all the resources we can for that one day,” Martinez said.

The event is a collaborative effort between RGV Promotions, local nonprofits and the medical industry.

“Our main goal is to promote a healthy lifestyle,” Martinez said. “We’re taking care of the entire Valley.”

The wellness expo has become a personal journey for Martinez after she lost her mother to cancer.

Martinez wants to promote available resources that members of the Valley can use to take preventive measures.

In addition to booths promoting health and wellness, the event will have events and activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Zumba lessons will be available from local instructors as well as face painting and bouncy castles.

In between talking to physicians and health care providers, those in attendance will be able to enjoy a free car and truck show as well as door prizes that will be given out every half hour.
