Police name suspect in SWAT standoff

HARLINGEN — Police have identified the suspect who they say brought the Harlingen SWAT team to his home for firing off his gun as 28-year-old Jefferson Glasgow Thacker.

Thacker was charged with aggravated assault stemming from a disturbance with neighbors that initially began around 4 a.m. Monday.

According to police reports, Thacker had initially threatened the victim, an adult male Harlingen resident, with a metal wrench and later returned and fired shots outside the victim’s residence.

Thacker was arraigned yesterday on a charge of aggravated assault and bond was set at $30,000.

On Monday at about 10:57 a.m., the Harlingen Police Department received a call of shots fired in the 25000 block of Stuart Place Road.

Officers attempted to make contact at the residence where Thacker was arrested.

Thacker had allegedly fired shots threatening a neighbor and had taken a position back at his residence.

HPD patrol called for support by the Harlingen SWAT team who worked together with hostage negotiators and intel officers over the next few hours to take the suspect into custody.

Thacker is currently being held in the Harlingen Police Department jail.
