SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — Due to damage from Hurricane Harvey, there are a limited number of sites for the Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach fall cleanup.
Three of the sites that will go on as typical will be on South Padre Island. Volunteers are needed at Andy Bowie Park, Town Beach Access #3 and Boca Chica Beach to help pick up trash and clean up the beach area.
Typically, this event has about 30 locations, but due to Hurricane Harvey, there will be just 12 this time around.
“Hurricane Harvey was a destructive force that ravaged communities along the coast, but on Sept. 23, Texans from far and wide are going to come together to help restore our Texas beaches,” Land Commissioner George P. Bush said.
“Many residents of the towns and communities along the Texas coast are dependent on tourism for their livelihood.”
Bush urges area residents to come together and help Texans rebuild and be part of the solution on Saturday.
Other locations where the fall cleanup will occur include Galveston Island, Morgan’s Point, Nature Conservancy’s Texas City Prairie Preserve, Boggy Nature Park and King Fisher Beach, Baffin Bay, North Beach, North Padre Island/Padre Balli Park and Padre Island National Seashore.

Show up at 8:30 a.m. to one of these locations. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring sunscreen and water.
Each volunteer will be given data cards, gloves, pencils and trash bags.
