SANTA ROSA — The mighty Warriors made a big statement on the gridiron Friday, winning their home opener by two touchdowns over Hidalgo.
They also made a big statement off the field with their “Students helping Students” fundraiser that kicked off at that same Friday night football game.
Santa Rosa ISD began accepting school supply donations to help students affected by Hurricane Harvey in the Rockport area.
“We did real well at the football game,” said Rebecca Corpus, Santa Rosa principal. “We had plenty of community involvement.”
A donation box was set up at the football stadium.
Corpus said the community donated notebooks, pencils, backpacks and a lot of monetary donations.
The Rockport-Fulton High School sustained significant damage.
Santa Rosa schools will continue to accept donations of school supplies such as paper, pencils, scissors, glue sticks, back packs, hand sanitizer, hand soap, tissue boxes or cash donations.
The disaster relief project will end today and all school supplies and monetary donations will be transported to Rockport by Santa Rosa High School students on Saturday.
“Our students want to do as much as they can for the Rockport area,” Corpus said.
