New Island leadership: No opposition makes Stahl mayor-elect

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — Dennis Stahl will not be opposed in his third bid for public office.

“I’m pleased that I did not draw opposition,” Stahl said. “I can start working on things for the future.”

He ran for City Council Place 1 twice. His first run for office came in 2014 to finish the unexpired term of Barry Patel, and his second was for re-election in 2016.

His third bid was for mayor.

“I look forward to the challenge of eventually serving as mayor of our Island,” Stahl said. “Right now, our council needs to concentrate on executing and following Mayor Barry Patel’s lead.”

Stahl said there is much more work to accomplish in the remaining two and a half months of Mayor Patel’s term.

“I would also like to personally acknowledge Barry (Patel) for his endorsement of my campaign, and for providing an outstanding leadership example over the past three years,” Stahl said.

He said he does not foresee any tremendous change and plans to continue to make South Padre Island a world-class destination.

Stahl, originally from San Antonio, became a resident of the Island in 2005 and has lived permanently on the Island since 2014.

He had a successful career in the pet supply industry.

“It’s a great feeling for my wife, my family and myself to know that we can give back to the community,” Stahl said.

Mayor-elect Dennis Stahl’s top five goals he plans to execute as the Island mayor.

• GOAL 3

Exercise strong financial stewardship.
