HARLINGEN — She makes getting older look fun. Laverne Myrick will turn 101 years old Sunday, but it doesn’t show.
Myrick bounced around her birthday party meeting with friends and workers at the Golden Palms Retirement and Health Center.
The former golfer, moved to Harlingen 46 years ago and has been at Golden Palms for 20 years.
She does not use a walker, isn’t on any medication and she still drives.
Eli Hinojosa, a parts and service manager at Cardenas BMW met Myrick at church where they became friends.
He contacted Golden Palms Wednesday saying he wanted to throw a surprise party for Myrick.
According to Myrick, her last birthday party was in 1933.
