Second suspect in Edinburg shooting charged with capital murder

EDINBURG – A second suspect in a fatal shooting over the weekend was formally charged Tuesday afternoon with capital murder.

Mario Powell, 31, of McAllen, was arraigned by Edinburg Municipal Court Judge Toribio “Terry” Palacios, who set his bond at $750,000.

Powell was charged with fatally shooting Marquis Devon Holiday, 26, of Edinburg.

A second suspect, Bernardo Garcia Jr., 25, of Edinburg, was charged Monday with murder in connection to the July 29 shooting.

The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. in front of a house in the 1000 block of Tori Lane after a drug deal went wrong, said Oscar Trevino, Edinburg assistant police chief.

Both Powell and Garcia are being held in Hidalgo County Jail.
