Small-craft alert issued for bay, gulf waters

HARLINGEN — National Weather Service forecasters have issued a small craft advisory today for boaters in the gulf and Laguna Madre.

Forecasters in Brownsville say mariners should expect choppy conditions across the bay and seas of three to five feet on coastal gulf waters.

Those conditions will be in place from the mouth of the Rio Grande north to Baffin Bay.

Winds will continue to increase until late afternoon, topping out at about 25 mph along the coastal areas.

Forecasters also alert beach-goers to a moderate risk of rip currents today.
