Heat indices could pass 110 degrees today

HARLINGEN — Another hot and humid day is in store today for the Rio Grande Valley, and weather forecasters say potentially dangerous heat indices are expected in the 105- to 110-degree range.

The heat index, also known as the “feels like” temperature, is a combination of heat and humidity levels.

Included in the outlook area are Cameron, Willacy and Hidalgo counties, as well as the ranchlands area.

National Weather Service forecasters say the locked-in summer weather pattern is likely to continue for the entire week, with many locations experiencing heat indices exceeding 110 degrees during peak heating hours in the afternoon.

Actual temperatures today will range from the mid-90s along the coast to as high as 105 higher up the Valley.

Strong winds may give some relief, however. Winds of more than 20 mph are expected from the coast all the way to McAllen.
