Fun, learning set for Willacy children

RAYMONDVILLE — Four days of hands-on learning are waiting for children across Willacy County.

Communities Against Substance Abuse, or CASA, and the Reber Memorial Library will hold Play, Learn and Grow from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday at the library.

The program will feature indoor and outdoor presentations from Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge, Grace Heritage Ranch, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Texas A&M Citrus Center and Behavioral Health Solutions of South Texas.

“As a coalition, we are participating because our focus is building collaborations in the community to help prevent underage drinking, marijuana use and prescription drug abuse among youth and young adults in Willacy County,” Rosalie Tristan, CASA’s coordinator, said in a press release.

Topics will include health, nutrition and safety.

“Our focus is to give special attention to the children of the community because we believe that early development of good reading habits leads to a higher level of literacy throughout one’s lifetime,” said Rosa Sanchez, the library’s director.
