RGV Vixens eager to play first-ever postseason contest

HARLINGEN — The RGV Vixens are ready.

Heading into their first-round playoff game against the No. 8-seeded SWTX Mockingjays, the No.1-seeded Vixens are about as ready as they can be and emotions are running high.

And as the team likes to say, “We’re not done yet.”

“We are excited, pumped and motivated because we’ve been waiting for this moment,” said Vixens nose guard/defensive end Isabel Simental. “We are all very proud of each other and it feels amazing to be able to play this game alongside my sisters.

“Every one of us comes from different backgrounds, but when we’re out there on the field we’re one with each other. We’ve come this far and we’re getting those rings. I believe in every one of my teammates and their abilities.”

This is the first playoff appearance for the Vixens. In their previous league, the Sugar and Spice League, only the No. 1 and No. 2 seed advanced to the title game.

This season the RGV Vixens play in the IWFA League and although the team has made it look easy, that hasn’t been the case.

On the road to the playoffs this season, the Vixens defeated the Weslaco Jaguars 78-47, the San Benito Clovers 46-20, the STX Phoenix 74-26, the Dynasty 50-0, the RGV dolls 40-12 and the Laredo Warhawks 62-25.

The Vixen’s will play the SWTX Mockingjays at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Victor Park field.
