Dave & Buster’s to open in June

McALLEN — Dave & Buster’s, the entertainment complex and restaurant, is set to open on June 19. It’s located at the Shops at 29, at the corner of South 29th Street and Interstate 2/Expressway 83 in McAllen near the Convention Center.

The 30,000-square-foot venue is looking to hire nearly 300 full-time and part-time positions for front and back of the house operations, including cooks, managers, bartenders, waiters, game technicians, hosts and more, according to the company’s public relations agency.

To lure Dave & Buster’s to McAllen, the city commission voted to offer a $3.3 million incentive package, requiring the venue to meet certain sales benchmarks and stay open for a specific length of time. District 5 Commissioner John Ingram was the only commissioner to vote in opposition to the incentive package.

In addition to Dave & Buster’s, the Shops at 29 will house Burlington Coat Factory, Ross clothing store, Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, Bubba’s 33 and more.

Flanked by Rio Grande Valley Toros cheerleaders at the venue’s groundbreaking last June, city staff sported orange Dave and Buster’s T-shirts.

“This is will be the kinds of deals we are going to make because that means the future of the Rio Grande Valley is bright,” City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez said at the groundbreaking.
