Child ‘police chief’ dies of cancer

We are saddened by the death of 11-year-old Neo Ashton Martinez.

The Harlingen boy, who suffered from Osteosarcoma, died Friday after battling the rare bone cancer for a year.

Last summer he was given a special treat when he was sworn in as chief of police for the day.

The young boy was given a pint-sized authentic Harlingen Police Department uniform, allowed to arrest a couple of bad guys and spend the day with Police Chief Jeffrey Adickes and his officers.

Neo is survived by his parents, brothers and sisters, and other loved ones. His services are being held at Heavenly Grace Funeral Home in La Feria.
