Harlingen social 6-miler bike ride tonight

HARLINGEN — The 2nd Annual Harlingen Social Bike Ride is ready for Friday evening beginning at the city parking lot behind Prelude.

The six-mile ride is sponsored by the Harlingen-San Benito Metropolitan Planning Organization and SOTX Cycles.

Cyclists need to be at the lot at 6:30 p.m. tonight with a bike, helmet and water at the parking lot at 150 E. Monroe Ave. Cyclists will loop back to that point to end the ride after a refreshment stop at McKelvey Park.

The ride is suitable for families and kids 10 years of age or older.

The ride is free and will be escorted along the way by the Harlingen Police Department.

Organizers say the event should be over in time to make the Harlingen Art Night downtown.
