Who makes the money? School board will discuss pay, benefits

SAN BENITO — This evening, the school board will hear the results of a compensation study.

It’s always a hot topic regardless of where you work or who you work for — salaries and benefits.

School officials discuss these subjects almost in every meeting they conduct.

The board also wants to ensure that staff members are compensated well.

For months, Superintendent Dr. Adrian Vega said the district has asked the Texas Association of Schools Boards or TASB to conduct a comprehensive compensation study.

Tonight, the community and the district will get to hear the results of the study.

According to Vega, this will lead the district to a new compensation plan.

Vega said last month, he would meet with TASB regularly to discuss study findings. He will then update the school board.

This will be the first of many updates.

Once the study is approved, the district finance department will be developing the new budget to reflect the new compensation plan.
