Man charged with stealing cellphone

HARLINGEN — Police have arrested a man they say broke into a woman’s home and stole her cell phone last month.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. on Feb. 14, an officer responded to the 1000 block of Fannin Street where a woman said a man later identified as Ricardo Simental, 19, opened a window, reached inside and then stole a cellphone valued at $50.

Police say Simental ran from the house and they were unable to find him.

The detective assigned the case was able to verify the stolen phone had been sold a couple of hours later at a local ECO ATM.

Simental was arrested Tuesday on unrelated charges and the subsequently charged with burglary of a habitation by complaint.

His bond was set $30,000.
