HARLINGEN — The man who police say struck and killed another man with his car Tuesday night has been identified and arraigned on several charges.
Joaquin Cordero, 24, of Harlingen, was arraigned on a second-degree felony for accident involving death in connection to the hit-and-run of 52-year-old Harlingen resident Jeffrey Wall.
His bond was set at $100,000.
At 9:24 p.m., Harlingen officers responded to the 900 block of W. Tyler Ave. in reference to an auto-pedestrian crash.
When officers arrived on the scene, a man, later identified as Wall was located lying in the roadway, dead.
Police said after the incident, Cordero fled the scene.
During the investigation, Cordero’s vehicle, a four-door Saturn, was located and secured for investigation purposes.
He turned himself into police Wednesday around noon after an active police search.
Upon his arrest, police conducted a blood draw to check for drugs or alcohol. Those results have not been released.
Police are also trying to determine if speed was a factor.
The Harlingen Highway Enforcement Unit and Major Crime’s unit will be conducting their investigation into this fatal hit and run crash.
Police said if Cordero does not make bond, he will be transferred to the county jail.
