San Benito new home for AEP Texas service center

AEP Texas plans to build a $10 million service center in San Benito that will serve the entire east end of the Rio Grande Valley.

The new service center will be built off of U.S. Highway Business 77 and Line M Road near the old city airport.

According to a news release, AEP Texas says the center will house 110 employees from various departments and allow it to consolidate five locations from the mid and lower Valley into one location.

Construction is scheduled to begin in March and should take a year to build.

Judith Talavera, AEP Texas president and chief operating officer, said construction of the facility is a positive step for the company.

“We have needed a new service center for a long time in this area, and this is a great step forward to allow us to continue to provide reliable electric service to our customers,” Talavera said.

Talavera says AEP Texas looks forward to re-locating to San Benito.
