Students and staff thank the Board of Trustees

In Texas, January is School Board Recognition Month.

It is a celebration of dedicated volunteers that generously share of their time and energy on behalf of our children and our communities. It is an opportunity to focus on the crucial role that elected trustees play in our communities and schools. It is the time to thank these local leaders for their dedication and willingness to serve as advocates for our children and public schools.

As elected officials, school board members are the voice of their communities, serving first and foremost in the best interest of the 5.3 million students in Texas public schools that depend on the adults in their communities to see that their educational opportunities are the best they can be.

Throughout Texas, more than 7,100 generous individuals have offered to help through board service. They receive no pay for their dedicated efforts. They not only volunteer their time and effort for our local schools, but they also speak up for our system of public education on a statewide level. They care about the success of students, staff members, and school districts across Texas.

The seven dedicated volunteers that serve on the San Benito CISD Board of Trustees were honored during this month’s regular meeting of the Board.

“It has been an honor to work with each of you. I appreciate and am thankful for your support and your leadership because without your support and leadership, we would not be able to move the district forward and support our children and support our parents,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Adrian Vega during the School Board Recognition Month segment of the meeting.

During the local celebration, Dr. Vega read the official 2017 School Board Recognition Month Proclamation from the Office of Texas Governor Greg Abbott, the opening statement of which reads, “In Texas, we place immense value in our youth. We protect them, guide them and are always working toward a better tomorrow to secure our young peoples’ bright and precious futures.”

As the celebration continued, several students from each school personally thanked the Trustees and presented them with personalized certificates and tokens of appreciation for their volunteer service to San Benito’s educational community. The highlight of the evening came when the San Benito High School Mariachi Del Sol entered the meeting room and serenaded the Trustees with an array of lively classic mariachi tunes.

San Benito CISD schools will, at various times throughout the month, welcome Trustees for campus celebrations of their dedication and unwavering commitment to our children and educational community.
