BROWNSVILLE – During his second day of testimony against his two younger brothers, Joel Luna and Eduardo “Pajaro” Luna Rodriguez, Fernando Luna Rodriguez continued his recollection of the events that led to the death and decapitation of Jose Francisco Palacios Paz.
Joel Luna formerly was an agent with the U.S. Border Patrol. Paz was a Honduran immigrant employed at Eduardo’s business, Veteran’s Tire Shop, in Edinburg.
On Thursday, Fernando testified he received messages from Paz’s wife, Martha, and forwarded them to Eduardo.
According to his testimony, she told him Paz was going to go to authorities and tell them about the Lunas’ drug and weapons smuggling operation.
Authorities believe Palacios Paz was killed at the shop in Edinburg, and that the Lunas and two others transported Palacios Paz’s remains to the Laguna Madre area, where they dumped his body into the waters in March 2015.
The brothers are facing charges of capital murder in connection with the death of Palacios Paz for retaliation, murder and engaging in organized criminal activity.
