Valley’s mounted Border Patrol agents to ride in Trump’s parade

HARLINGEN — Instead of patrolling the banks of the Rio Grande on Jan. 20, some local Border Patrol agents will be on horseback trotting down Pennsylvania Avenue.

The Rio Grande Valley Sector Horse Patrol unit has been selected to participate in the 58th presidential inauguration parade in Washington, D.C.

Eight members of the unit will be representing the United States Border Patrol at the inauguration festivities for President-elect Donald Trump.

“The inauguration in Washington, D.C., is a hallmark event and we are proud to represent the U.S. Border Patrol in this fashion with distinguished agents whose presence will surely enhance the festivities,” said RGV Sector Border Patrol Chief Patrol Agent Manuel Padilla, Jr.

Padilla is slated to attend as well.

The presidential inauguration parade is a tradition that dates all the way back to George Washington’s inauguration.

The Border Patrol has participated in the traditional parade in the past, but this is the first time the RGV Sector Horse Patrol has been selected for this honor.

In recent years, the Horse Patrol has garnered national attention for its training and field safety expertise.

The unit has consistently been called upon for standardizing training throughout the Border Patrol.

The RGV Sector has almost 40 horses that it adopted from the Noble Mustang program.
