UTRGV to honor ‘day on’ for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

UTRGV students, faculty and staff will commemorate the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by volunteering at more than 40 sites across the Valley on MLK Day.

The third Monday of each January is a federal holiday, observed as a “day on,” rather than a day off.

On MLK Day, organizations in the United States contribute to community service projects.

Students, student organizations, faculty and staff, alumni, campus departments and members of the community are encouraged to participate in the Day of Service, this year on Monday, Jan. 16.

Volunteering events will be available in Brownsville, Edinburg and surrounding areas. Volunteers will meet at 7:45 a.m. at their assigned sites. Then, at noon, they will head to the PlainsCapital Bank El Gran Salón on the Brownsville Campus or to the University Center Ballroom on the Edinburg campus, for lunch and a closing ceremony.
