Freeze warning issued for the Valley tonight; shelter opens

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for tonight across the entire Rio Grande Valley.

Forecasters say a cold air mass moving into South Texas will bring freezing temperatures through Saturday morning. Dense fog will also continue to plague the area as well.

The freeze warning is in effect from 9 pm. tonight until 9 a.m. Saturday.

Temperatures may fall between 20 to 30 degrees across the ranchlands and portions of Starr and Hidalgo counties.

WARMING SHELTER OPENED

First Baptist Church in Weslaco has opened a warming shelter for tonight. The church is located at 600 S. Kansas Ave. The American Red Cross is providing blankets, comfort kits and water for anyone who seeks a warm place to spend the night.
