Ex-county judge arrested

BROWNSVILLE — Former Cameron County Judge Pete Sepulveda Jr. has been arrested on charges of abuse of official capacity, misapplication of fiduciary property and theft by a public servant, authorities revealed yesterday in Brownsville.

According to the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office, the arrest stems from an investigation that began in March 2016, after the DA’s office received a complaint alleging that county workers had paved a particular private road.

The name of the private road or area of the county the road is located was not released.

Sepulveda turned himself in to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office late yesterday afternoon for processing, authorities said.

Because of that complaint, the DA’s Public Integrity Investigators opened an investigation, whose sealed indictments were given to the grand jury on Dec. 21.

Yesterday, a state district judge unsealed the indictments, issued arrest warrants and set bonds. Sepulveda’s defense attorney, Noe Garza, was advised of the warrants and Sepulveda voluntarily turned himself in.

The cases are pending arraignment.
