Coffee with … Get to know your district attorney

SAN BENITO — The public will have an opportunity to have coffee with the county’s district attorney.

They will also be able to ask him questions about his office and his relationship with the community.

This morning, the San Benito Chamber will host its weekly “Coffee With” session.

Today’s speaker will be Cameron County District Attorney Luis V. Saenz.

He will be talking about law enforcement and its important relationships with businesses in the community.

The meeting will start today at 9:30 a.m. at the Chamber office, 223 S. Sam Houston Blvd.

Saenz took office most recently in 2013 for a four-year term.

He served as an assistant district attorney from 1984-1990 and was promoted First-Chair Prosecutor in just 18 months.

He was appointed District Attorney by the Cameron County Commissioners Court in 1990, elected as District Attorney in 1992, appointed as Special Prosecutor in 2005 and appointed Cameron County Magistrate by the Board of Judges in 2005.

Saenz acquired a bachelor’s of science degree in education from Texas A & I Kingsville in 1974, served as a Brownsville educator from 1975-1981 and attended the University of Texas Law School from 1981-1984 where he passed the bar exam before graduating from law school.
