Siblings arrested in August stabbing

RAYMONDVILLE — A 50-year-old Raymondville man and his sister are accused in the case of a woman found alongside a road stabbed more than 12 times.

Yesterday, Albert Mendoza was being held on $1.25 million bail following his arrest Wednesday in the stabbing of Gracie Cantu-Ledesma of Raymondville, found near Sebastian on Aug. 26.

Willacy County Justice of the Peace George Solis charged Mendoza with aggravated sexual assault and aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.

Yesterday afternoon, Margie Castro Mendoza, 55, also of Raymondville, turned herself into the Willacy County Jail, where she faces charges of aggravated sexual assault and aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, investigator Danny Solis said.

Solis said he could not release details in the case.

At about 7:30 a.m. Aug. 26, a motorist found Cantu-Ledesma on the side of FM 2629, about three miles east of U.S. 77 near Sebastian.

She was unconscious, stabbed more than 12 times, including a wound to her throat.

Solis said Cantu-Ledesma was released from a local hospital in September.

“She was recovering,” Solis said.
