An all-day buffet: Library hosts game day

HARLINGEN — Forget about spending a weekend binge-watching “The Walking Dead” or “Game of Thrones.”

On Saturday, Nov. 19, the Harlingen Public Library wants everybody to binge on game-playing during its International Games Day.

Library experts are going to lead participants through the ins-and-outs of board games like Dead of Winter, The Big Book of Madness, Dungeons and Dragons, Fantasy Flight Games, World of Warcraft, Castle Panic and more.

“This is for all levels,” said library Director Dauna Campbell. “Some of them are going to be role-playing type games, some of them are going to be traditional games that we all grew up playing.

“So it’s going to be kind of a mix of different types of games,” Campbell added. “I think that some of them are going to be unusual games that nobody has played before.”

Library staff will direct participants in the rules of the games as well as tactics. The library is encouraging those who want to play to dress up in geeky threads or cosplay (costume play) wear.

“The whole thing is it’s International Games Day so it’s going to be celebrating these games,” Campbell said. “The idea is just to come and have fun.”
