Look for long lines

BROWNSVILLE — Vote early today for Election Day and avoid the lines, says Cameron County elections administrator Remi Garza.

And there will be lines, he said, at least at some polling places.

Yesterday, the county was poised for a historic turnout after having left previous early voting totals in the dust.

More than 61,000 registered voters cast their ballots during the 12 days of early voting that ended Friday. That’s more than 45 percent higher than the 2012 general election early-voting turnout.

As with previous general elections, the last day of early voting saw the biggest surge, with 8,317 county residents casting their ballots on Nov. 4.

The last day of early voting in 2012 saw 6,620 ballots cast.
