Economic director resigns; Ozuna says DWI arrest not a factor

RAYMONDVILLE — After six years, Catalina Ozuna has resigned as executive director of the Raymondville Economic Development Corporation.

Yesterday, Mayor Gilbert Gonzales said Ozuna resigned Monday, effective immediately, to work two jobs in Brownsville, where she’s moved with her family.

Ozuna’s resignation came two days after her arrest on a driving while intoxicated charge.

Ozuna said her resignation did not stem from the arrest.

“The city wanted me to stay,” Ozuna said. “The people I worked for are great.”

Saturday, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper arrested Ozuna on DWI in Hidalgo County, according to jail records.

Gonzales also denied the arrest led to Ozuna’s resignation.

“She had already planned to leave. She had already taken things out of her office,” Gonzales, who serves as the EDC’s chairman, said.

“Every time you lose any employee it doesn’t feel good. She did a good job. She worked a lot. She had her hands full.”

Ozuna, who was earning a salary of $40,706, said she was working for a Brownsville insurance agency and selling health products.

The city plans to launch a search for an EDC director, City Manager Eleazar Garcia said.
