It’s a pumpkin patch, Charlie Brown

SANTA MONICA — For Brian Schalk, Halloween still means a chance to see if the Great Pumpkin rises from the pumpkin patch.

So he’s opening up his family’s ranch to let residents pick their Halloween pumpkins and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the classic “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.”

Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 3, Schalk will open Grace Heritage Ranch for its 2016 Autumn Adventure.

On Oct. 29, the program features a free presentation of the holiday classic on an 18-foot screen at 7:30 p.m. Admission is limited to 200.

“It’s something I grew up with, like everyone in my age group,” Schalk, 51, said. “It’s a holiday tradition. As time goes on and we have children of our own, now they’re growing up with it.”

On Saturdays and Sundays, the ranch will feature a pumpkin patch to give residents a chance to pick their favorite for Halloween, Schalk said, adding prices will be $4.99.

The program will feature hay rides, hay pyramids and games including pumpkin bowling.

On weekdays through Dec. 3, the ranch featuring alpacas, donkeys, sheep and goats open for private tours.
