ALAMO — An Hidalgo County detention officer was arrested Thursday after being accused of injuring a child, according to jail records.
Juan Manuel Rodriguez-Anzaldua, 37, of Harlingen, was arrested by Alamo Police Department and booked about 6:30 p.m. into county jail with an injury to a child charge, a state jail felony. Anzaldua was released that same day after promising to show up for his court hearings, also known as a personal recognizance bond, court records show.
Anzaldua was off duty at the time of the alleged assault and has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending an internal investigation, according to a statement from Sheriff Eddie Guerra on the department’s Facebook page.
“I am extremely disappointed, and greatly concerned about the reported arrest of one of my detention officers,” Guerra wrote. “We are currently working with the Alamo Police Department to obtain additional information about the incident.”
Details about the allegations against Anzaldua were not immediately available.
If convicted of a state jail felony, he faces up to two years in jail and a maximum fine of $10,000.
