City’s performance looks good for September

LAGUNA VISTA — In the month following the end of each quarter, town staff provides the city council with a quarterly financial performance report.

These reports are a “snapshot” of the financial activity that took place during the quarter.

“We are at 96 percent (or $1,657,058) of the budgeted amount of $1,724,824 in revenues. The previous year, on the same date, the town generated $1,365,553 in revenues,” said City Manager Rolando Vela.

“We are at 89 percent (or $1,538,242) of the budgeted amount of $1,724,824 in expenditures. The previous year, on the same date, the town had $1,668,255 in expenditures.”

Because of these September numbers, the town has made significant strides, said Vela.

Laguna Vista issued $33,858 in building permits.

“This is the highest amount generated in revenues. This is due to the construction of new homes in the community,” said Vela.

The town issued $2,350 in business licenses, $115,128 in court fines, and $42,961 in court bonds.

“The patrol officers are requiring cash bonds for those they stop that have no vehicle insurance, no driver’s license, or if they are out of the Valley or out of the state,” Vela said.

In addition, the town collected $103,657 in sales tax revenues.

“Last year, the town collected $113,272. We are at $103,657, and this amount does not include the September receipts. We anticipate exceeding last year’s total receipts before the end of the fiscal year,” Vela said.

TDA grant

LAGUNA VISTA — The town recently received the award letter from the Texas Department of Agriculture for a $230,870 grant.

The money will go toward street improvements to Orange Lane.

Town staff will be administering this grant in-house, said City Manager Rolando Vela.

On the Sept. 13 agenda, Vela is requesting authorization from the Town Council to advertise for statements of qualifications from engineering firms for this project.
