Water leak forces San Benito residents to conserve water

San Benito residents are being asked to conserve water after a major water leak at one of the city’s water plants.

The leak is inside the water filtration plant No. 1 on Stenger Street and is located in the underground header where treated water is fed to distribution lines.

They say water department work crews are working to fix the problem.

Residents and businesses are asked to conserve water in order to maintain a consistent water pressure throughout the system.

If necessary the city will use water from the City of Harlingen as a backup to ensure a constant flow ow water.

City commissioners will discuss the repairs needed to fix it the problem during tonight’s commission meeting.

On the agenda is consideration and possible action authorizing the city manager to take appropriate measures to make repairs at water plant No.1.
