HARLINGEN —Harlingen police have arrested a woman they say was drunk when she crashed into a motorcycle at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Loop 499 and East Grimes.
Officers say Taylor Nicole Ramirez, 23, was driving a white 2015 Honda Accord when she struck the motorcyclist riding a yellow Kawasaki motorcycle that was stopped at the intersection.
David Salinas, 29, of Harlingen was transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center with serious injuries.
Relatives say he is in a medically-induced coma and suffered a broken neck, ribs and leg.
During the investigation, police said Ramirez displayed signs of intoxication. After undergoing a field sobriety test, Ramirez was arrested and transported to the city jail for processing.
Investigators say she refused to provide a breath sample and was transported to the hospital for a blood test as part of the department’s “No Refusal” policy.
Police say Ramirez and Salinas had left a nearby nightclub just before the accident.
Ramirez is charged with a third-degree felony for intoxication assault and a class B misdemeanor for possession of marijuana, with bond totaling $32,000.
