LOS INDIOS — Soon after Officer Gilbert Garcia arrived at a home that involved a possible suicide attempt, he called for backup.
Garcia then retreated for cover.
When he reached the house off of U.S. 281 early Sunday morning, he made contact with Victoria Lopez. She began to tell him her husband, Rolando Lopez, had gone into the home with a shotgun.
Victoria told police Rolando was not coming out and he was going to hurt himself or anyone who came close to the house.
“It was a high-risk situation because he did discharge a firearm outside his house,” Los Indios Police Chief Jose De La Rosa said. “We knew he had several weapons inside the house.”
Victoria told police Roland had pointed a gun at her head and told her he was going to kill her and himself.
Police said Rolando had already fired off a shot from his .38 revolver outside his home.
“We told him several times through the intercom to come outside,” De La Rosa said. “At the end, we got a parent to talk to him over the phone and then he came out.”
