Two new medical offices planned for Kamali Drive

HARLINGEN — The rapidly developing medical area on Kamali Drive will see two new offices constructed by doctors currently practicing in Harlingen.

Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Gregory Smith, who has SportOrtho clinics in Harlingen, McAllen and Brownsville, has filed plans for a new $1.8 million building next to his current office at 602 Kamali Dr.

Dr. Luis Reynoso, an internal medicine specialist with a practice located at 2401 N. Ed Carey Dr., will be constructing a $1 million suite of offices at 629 Kamali Dr.

The medical community is behind Lowe’s.

Smith, a former All-Big Ten nose guard for Ohio State University, came to the Rio Grande Valley after completing his orthopedic training at the University Health Science Center in San Antonio.

Smith’s new medical office will be an orthopedic ambulatory care surgical center and provide 5,196 square feet of space. The construction start date is Oct. 1 and the completion date is expected to be in August 2017.

Boynton Williams and Associates is serving as design firm.

Reynoso’s new office will cover approximately 8,270 square feet and the design firm is Vanguard Engineering PLC.

The estimated construction start date for the Reynoso office complex is this month, with an anticipated completion date of January 2017.

Neither doctor returned calls seeking comment.
