HARLINGEN — The city’s proposed budget is nearly tweaked.
Yesterday, Finance Director Elvia Treviño was putting the final touches on the budget that will guide officials during the next fiscal year.
In a special meeting Tuesday, city commissioners are expected to approve the proposed budget’s first reading.
So far, City Manager Dan Serna has proposed a $41 million general fund budget with a $15.1 million cash reserve capable of operating the city for 138 days in case of emergency.
Originally, Serna planned to pull $500,000 from cash reserves to fund street repairs.
But commissioners asked him to come up with more money for streets.
So Serna has planned to boost next year’s street program to $830,000.
As part of the proposed budget, $37,000 would be used to buy two dump trucks for street projects.
Still, next year’s street repairs appear to fall short of the current program.
