Parks and Recreation’s fall brochure coming Sunday

HARLINGEN — Summer is on the wane, and there’s no better way to confirm it than the Parks and Recreation Department’s annual fall brochure.

The 12-page, full-color publication lists Parks and Rec contacts and phone numbers, a rundown of rental fees at each city park, nearly two dozen activities, classes and more.

The brochure will be inserted into this Sunday’s Valley Morning Star.

“This is an all-inclusive document that people can come and look at and get information about what’s going on,” said Lara Di Paolo, recreation supervisor for the parks department.

Classes offered this year include several different martial arts courses, belly-dancing, Texas two-step dancing, teen jazz and ballet dancing, zumba and more.

“I’m really excited because for recreation, we’ve been able to get four new classes,” Di Paolo said. “We’re going to have guitar classes, we are going to have two art classes … and also a gentleman who is one of our teachers wanted to do a line-dancing class.”

In addition, the brochure lists adult education classes including knitting, Hispanic genealogy, Tip O Texas genealogy and birding instruction offered by the Arroyo Colorado Audubon Society.

Youth classes include Paws to Read and Toddler Tales.

The brochure also has listings for adult and youth athletic leagues for law enforcement basketball, pickleball, fall softball leagues and tennis and table tennis.

The publication lists aquatics offerings like lap swimming times and water aerobics classes, and includes a calendar of city events from September through December.
