San Benito honors memory of former city manager

SAN BENITO — It’s been more than a year since former City Manager Manuel Lara died unexpectedly.

But the city will always remember him.

To celebrate his dedication and hard work with San Benito, city officials unveiled a memorial monument in front of City Hall yesterday.

The memorial had been planned since his passing.

Lara, who served the city for more than seven years, died unexpectedly in July 2015, surprising city officials.

He was 60 years old.

Mayor Pro Tem Antonio Gonzales led the efforts to establish the memorial that was donated by De Angel Monuments.

He described Lara as one of his “best friends” and said yesterday he misses him dearly. Gonzales said he had worked with him longer than anyone else.
